About the museum

The Local History Museum of Horishni Plavni is a true gem among the museums of the Dnipro region. Established in 2000 with the aim of preserving the cultural heritage of the region, it has become a scientific research and cultural-educational center that studies and promotes the historical and cultural heritage of the local community and integrates it into the contemporary cultural context of the country. The dedicated work of the museum team makes the study of the region’s past and present vivid, emotional, and engaging. The museum’s collections include more than 30,000 items. They are constantly being enriched with materials from archaeological expeditions, paleontological research, unique artifacts from the history and present of the city and surrounding villages, documentary sources, and works of art. About 20% of the collection is presented in several permanent exhibitions, including: “The Ancient Past of the Region in Archaeological Finds,” “Ethnographic Room,” “Russo-Ukrainian War,” “Wars That Changed the World,” “Geologist’s Room,” and “Archives of the Earth: From Geological Rocks to Fossil Organisms.” In recent years, with the support of local authorities, the exhibition space has been continuously expanding. The exhibition hall presents, in regularly changing displays, works by local and Ukrainian artists – paintings, sculpture, photography, and more. It also hosts meetings with artists and interactive events for visitors. The museum conducts educational lectures, temporary thematic exhibitions, and publishing activities, including the publication of the local history almanac “Svichado Prydniprovia”. Its researchers take part in regional, nationwide, and international conferences. We invite you to our “temple of the muses”!
