About the Exhibition
The Local History Museum of Horishni Plavni presents Mykhailo Stohnii's photo exhibition "SOS", dedicated to cats that have ended up in a shelter and need human attention, care, and a home of their own. The project draws attention to the fate of animals we meet on the city streets, often without thinking about the path they have endured.
The heroes of the photographs are cats with different life stories. Some of them lived on the streets for a long time, some were left without owners, and some were rescued in difficult circumstances. Ultimately, they ended up under the care of the "Dobre Sertse" shelter in Horishni Plavni, where they received a safe place, food, and necessary care. But for each of them, the crucial next step remains: finding a family where they can stay forever.
In Mykhailo Stohnii's works, the animal's gaze holds special significance. Capturing the moment, the photographer records the character, mood, wariness, trust, and individuality of each of his subjects. Before us stand living beings with their own habits, temperament, and lived experience. Photography provides an opportunity to look more closely at those beside us.
The title "SOS" sounds like a call for help. Each photo portrait becomes a kind of appeal to the viewer: to see, pay attention, and take an interest in the fate of a specific animal. The exhibition calls for supporting the "Dobre Sertse" shelter, spreading the word about its residents, and thereby helping them find a permanent home. Perhaps for someone, one of these photographs will be the first introduction to a new family member.
Each of these cats is waiting for their person. And quite possibly, among them is the one waiting specifically for you.
