About the event

With the support of Mayor Dmytro Bykov, the scientific library of the Local History Museum of Horishni Plavni has been enriched with a new historical work – book "Keleberda in the Poltava Region: A Historical Essay". The book's authors are well-known historians: Tetiana Tairova-Yakovlieva, Doctor of Historical Sciences and Professor, and Aliona Bahro, Candidate of Historical Sciences. The authors are specialists in the history of Central-Eastern Europe and Ukraine in the early modern period. The book "Keleberda in the Poltava Region: A Historical Essay" is one of the few publications dedicated to the history of the village of Keleberda, which is part of the Horishni Plavni urban territorial community. The path of the settlement and its surroundings is reconstructed by the researchers from the times of the Golden Horde's dominance in the steppe, and in opposition to them, the Lithuanians and Muscovites. It depicts the history of the sotnia (company) town of Keleberda of the Poltava Regiment, with special attention paid to the 18th–19th centuries, when the town flourished as a center of crafts, trade, and spirituality. The book details the transformation of Keleberda after the liquidation of the Hetmanate and includes chapters dedicated to the complex events of the 20th century, among other topics. The book's documentary base includes revisions, censuses, privileges, and even the Constitution of Pylyp Orlyk, where Keleberda is mentioned as a border town of the state. The pages of the publication are illustrated with copies of individual sources and maps. As a reminder, the history of Keleberda was previously explored in works such as "Keleberda: A Village in the Poltava Region" (edited by Yurii Shylov), "Horishni Plavni: From Antiquity to the Present," and other individual publications. Thus, the new edition continues the historiographical tradition. The book was ceremoniously presented by Mayor Dmytro Bykov to the director of the Local History Museum, Maryna Bezsmolna, during the 71st session of the city council. The book was published on the initiative and at the expense of Oleksandr Moroz.
